    Material: Gk. πτελέᾱ, epidaur. πελέᾱ “elm, Rũster” (latter with probably older Anlautsvereinfachung; unclear are τιλίαι “ black poplar “ Hes. and because of Anlauts ἀπελλόν αἴγειρος Hes.); Lat. tilia “Linde” (M.Ir. teile derives from dem Eng.); Ven. FlN Tiliaventus? Arm. t”eli “elm” is Lw. from πτελέα; perhaps *ptel-ei̯ü “die Breitblättrige” or at most “weit die Ä ste Breitende”.
